Infant Cribs: All-Important Safety Tips An Infant Crib

Buying infant cribs calls for incredible care - not only because your children deserve comfort, but also because they need safety. Improper construction or decoration of infant cribs is often responsible of SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome). Yes, there are kids that died because their parents hadn’t thought of checking if their mattresses are firm and fitting enough.

1. Normal, healthy infant should always sleep in a crib, not in their parents’ bed – the risk of rolling over the child is too big.

2. Make sure that the cribs you want to buy meet federal and ASTM standards – over 85% of manufacturers meet them, but 15% don’t bother with that.

3. Never use any quilts or blankets UNDER the infant. The less mobile surfaces there are in cribs, the less risk of your children suffocating.

4. Make sure that there are no strings or ropes of any kind in and near infant cribs. They have a dreadful tendency to find the way to children’s necks.

5. The infant crib’s sheet must fit the mattress and cover its corners. It negates the possibility of your children enfolding in the sheet and suffocating.

Infant cribs’ checklist:

1. Check if the infant cribs in question meet federal and ASTM standards. Most manufacturers do their best to keep them, but there are a few who don’t waste their time on anything but making money. The cheaper the cribs are, the greater chance of buying something that doesn’t meet any decent standard.

2. Make sure the infant cribs are solid enough not to fall apart when the children start moving. It might sound impossible, but such things happen from time to time.

3. Make sure the infant cribs you choose are of standard size. Otherwise it will be impossible to install bumpers correctly and getting bumped on the head increases greatly.
