Home Interior Decorating :: Cabinet Pulls Cabinet Pulls: How To Choose The Proper Cabinet PullsChoosing proper cabinet pulls is harder than you might think. While everyone knows the “all hardware shall match the cabinets’ style” mantra, the devil is in the details. What does “matching cabinet pulls” exactly mean? How can we choose the right hardware? What can we do with cabinet knobs and pulls and what can’t we do?
(1) If you don’t feel like spending a lot of time on looking for cabinet pulls, try to buy them from the same place where you purchased your cabinets. The pulls will probably be matching and you will be able to spend your time and energy on something else. (2) Concentrate on usefulness. The most important thing about cabinet pulls is their size – you must not have any problems with using them. Don’t buy cabinet pulls that are too small – you’ll only waste your money and you will have to through them away, no matter how much you’ve paid for them. (3) When installing cabinet pulls in your children’s bedroom, make sure that the cabinet pulls are even bigger than the standard ones. You may also want to buy special children cabinet pulls – in shapes of toys, animal or even socks. Putting pulls of right shapes on the right drawers can help your children learn. (4) When in doubt, buy a single pull and take it home with you. When standing in a store, it's not so easy to imagine what the pull will actually look like when installed on your cabinets. However, once you try it out on the cabinet door, you will know for sure. (5) Remember that pulls have certain sizes and they must fit your doors. If the pull is 2" long - and the holes drilled in your cabinet doors are 1 1/2" long you have a problem. You either match the holes or you fill in the holes in the cabinet doors, sand, refinish and re-drill. Horrors! If you remember these simple tips, buying cabinet pulls is a breeze.
